We love Lomo...new Lomography Gallery Store open in London

Finally, our fave camera brand Lomo have opened their very first London store just a stones throw away from knomo HQ, in Soho! For those who are up to speed, Lomography put the fun back into photography with their motto 'Dont think, Just shoot' using various designs of retro camera based on the Lomo Kompakt Automat 35mm camera. This camera is analogue (no digital screen to check pictures here!) which, by the way, was was originally designed by a top-secret military optics factory in the Soviet Union - super-cool!

Always a turn-up for the books...the Turner Prize is back

The most controversial art competition is back at the Tate Britian. Now in its 25th year, the Turner Prize never fails to highlight some of Britains brightest (if not maddest!) contemporary artists living and working in Britain.

You may remember Damien Hursts shark (who could forget?!) floating in formadehyde with a suitably pretentious name, or Tracey Emins bed; imaginatively entitled My Bed; which left most of us walking away aching to take a bath. This years nominess - Lucy Skaer, Enrico David, Rodger Hiorns and Richard Wright - are just as intriguing.

We scream for Ice cream!

Recently the knomo team headed over to good 'ol Selfridges for another of their fantabulous ideas...'boutique' Ice Cream that is basically a super amazing version of the best Haagen Dazs or Ben and Jerrys that money can buy.

Taking over the Ultralounge as a one-time only Art Installation, the Icecreamists describe themselves as 'sub-zero missionaries destined to convert the cold, cruel world to the life-enhancing gospel of freshly-made artisans gelato' Featuring Live Music, a funky Ice Cream Van, Open Kitchen and Introducing the 'Queens of Cream', the Icecreamists is well worth a trip to the dark side...

knomo hit Central Perk - get in quick before its gone!

Can you believe it ! 15 years ago Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica and Phoebe were characters that we were yet to know, but sure to love. Lasting 10 seasons, it is the most successful television sitcom of all time, and to celebrate 15 years since Friends first aired 'The One where Monica gets a roommate', a pop-up cafe has been erected in Soho, London with real set pieces from the original Cetral Perk set. We went along to check it out...

A Vogue Affair..

1 night. 13 cities. Vogue are organising the high fashion event of the year tomorrow with an evening of glitz and glamour, from Shanghai to Mumbai, Paris to New York. With industry big-wigs in full support, and some of the most exciting fashion labels getting involved, you can stop by a number of shops in and around the capital, and get a lot more than you bargained for!

All proceeds go to 'Crisis' the UK charity for the homeless. There will also be a specially designed t-shirt by Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers, on sale for £10.

The fabric of (London) life...

For all you budding textile designers out there, we have exciting news: TFL (or 'Transport for London', for the uninitiated) are holding a competition to design a new 'moquette' or seat cover design for the next generation of London tube trains.

The design brief, which is exactly the same as it was in 1930, emphasises that the design's colours should respond well to both natural and artificial light, with a pattern which takes account of wear and tear. The winning design will launch on the Piccadilly line in 2012 and will then be adopted across the London Underground system.

Yes, yes, we know the film came out a while ago, but what with styling our Autumn/Winter fashion shoot, working on the brand new knomo store opening at Ashford and the ensuing chaos of bags here, there and everywhere in the office, we simply haven’t had the time to go and enjoy this biopic… Until now!

 

The title is very apt, as this film is not just about tweed suits and quilted bags with chain link straps, but about the character of Chanel and the challenges faced by her before she became one of the most renowned designers of the 20^th Century. So it’s not just for fashionistas, nor is it a production about the catty fashion world either...

knomo hits the Edinburgh Festival...

In association with Fitzrovia Noir and the Kunst Gallery, knomo are supporting 'Suitcase Show #1', showing from Monday 24th August - Saturday 29th August, as part of the Edinburgh Festival.

Artists have been designing their own 'keep-sake' suitacses to take on special journeys and bring back souvenirs or memento's, and the knomo 'Serra' trolleys are being used to house these precious works of art.
